Two scholarships are available for full or part-time postgraduate students with Home or International fee status studying for a taught Masters course within the Department of English.
The scholarship is offered as a £10,000 cash award.
Am I eligible?
You must have achieved, or be expected to achieve, at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent.
You must hold an offer to study one of the following courses:
- MA Creative Writing
- MA English Literature
- MA Victorian Literature, Art and Culture
- MA Medieval Studies
How do I apply?
Applications must be submitted through RH Direct by 11.59pm (UK time) 11 July 2022. Applicants will be made aware of the outcome of their application after 26 July 2022.
Application guidelines
You must provide a supporting statement of no more than 400 words outlining why you should receive the scholarship (please note that statements that exceed the word count will automatically be rejected). You should include:
- Academic achievements you are particularly proud of and why these really matter to you
- Why you have chosen to do the degree you have applied for
- What your future aspirations are and how the scholarship will help you to achieve your future goals
Your statement will be judged on how effectively and convincingly you respond to the above.
As well as your statement, you will need to upload your most recent grades transcript from your undergraduate degree. Any applications that are submitted without an uploaded transcript will be rejected.

- MA English Literature
- MA Creative Writing
- MA Victorian Literature, Art and Culture
Eligibility
Open to new Masters students who hold a current conditional or unconditional offer to study a course, as listed above, at Royal Holloway. It is expected that candidates have achieved, or are on target to achieve a 2:1 degree or higher.
Allocation
Candidates will be selected based on academic achievement and a scholarship statement. Along with the scholarship statement, applicants will need to upload their most recent grades transcript from your undergraduate degree.
Payment
This scholarship is offered as a cash award of £10,000, paid in instalments. For part-time students, this will be split over two years (first two years of study only). Please note: All payments, discounts and fee reductions will only be made providing the student is enrolled at Royal Holloway on a postgraduate degree course at the time of the payment.
