Why I chose to stay at Royal Holloway

“I just love it here. I knew deep down that once I started my undergraduate degree, I wasn't going anywhere. I feel like I'm a part of a place where I’m loved and supported, and that's really what I want for my education.

I love my subject, so being able to continue it felt like an opportunity that I couldn’t miss.

There was one lecturer that who taught me in my second year, and who was my dissertation supervisor in my third year. Her passion and drive really encouraged me, and she helped me to compare modern life and the ancient world in new ways. I've really loved working alongside her again while doing my masters."

“Staying at Royal Holloway to do my masters felt like a natural step. I knew the campus, had friends here and a support network, and the 20% alumni discount definitely helped.

I worried at first about moving from drama to gender and politics, but the transition has been much easier than I expected.

Studying a masters is such a fun thing to do if you really want to dig deeper into a subject.”

"It allowed continuity…I’ve been able to build my skills, find career opportunities and keep up with my social networks and volunteering.

I found the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate a little stressful but rewarding…I had crossover between the individuals and the departments in my undergraduate course to my postgraduate course, so that helped a lot."

“Starting a masters I thought would be quite daunting and a level more difficult, but it just wasn’t. I was lucky enough to stay within the same department, so I had a familiarity already and knew a lot of the lecturers... they're so caring and interested in your personal development that it’s an easy transition to make. They really do encourage you – it’s like there’s a hand behind you saying keep going and never give up."
