We are excited to welcome back acclaimed flautists Carla Rees and Gavin Stewart to our series with a concert showcasing the multifaceted flute, with music from Boismortier, Telemann to Hurel.

About our performers 

Carla Rees is a British low flutes player, composer and arranger, working to raise the profile of her instruments through research, performance and collaboration. Her career incorporates solo and chamber music performance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and recordings, including a discography of nearly 30 albums. She has premiered several hundred works for low flutes, many of which are now published by her company Tetractys Publishing and is currently working on a project to create contemporary repertoire for baroque flute. She has nearly 90 published arrangements and compositions, including her 2016 work for solo piccolo, Nightsong, which has been performed in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, USA and Canada and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. She is Artistic Director of the contemporary chamber music ensemble rarescale, with whom she has performed in the UK and internationally and appeared on BBC Radio 3, and Director of its associated ensemble, rarescale Flute Academy. She has a PhD from the Royal College of Music in London. 

Gavin Stewart is a flautist, composer, and researcher with a particular interest in the realm of new music which kickstarted after he studied with Robert Dick in New York City following his undergraduate studies. He is currently completing his PhD which explores the Kingma system flute's capabilities at retranslating the sounds and techniques of the Japanese shakuhachi through the curation of a new body of work for flute and electronics. Gavin has appeared as a guest artist in several international festivals and conventions including the NFA convention (USA), International Low Flutes Festival (USA), and Waterloo festival (UK). He also hels a residency with the International Contemporary Ensemble at Banff Centre for Arts (Canada) and has recently finished a young artist programme with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. Through these opportunities he has worked closely with leading contemporary composers such as Rebecca Saunders, Harrison Birtwistle, Liza Lim and Richard Causton.

Car parking

When you arrive for a College event at our Egham campus, please park in car parks 12 or 4.

Car park 12 can be accessed by turning right as you enter the main College gates and is located next to the tennis courts. If this car park is full, please drive further onto our campus to car park 4, which can be accessed by turning left at the mini-roundabout behind the Students’ Union. We would advise that you bring the College map to campus with you and give yourself plenty of time to park.

Blue Badge holders can find designated parking spaces in Car park 1W, as well as between Gardeners Lodge and the Williams Annexe. You can find these locations by looking at our campus map opposite. Please note that we operate an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system on certain parts of our campus, however if you are here for an organised event, parking is unrestricted for event guests in car parks 12, 4 or 14 (or display your blue badge permit if parking in a disabled bay).
