Visiting Academic Programme

Visiting Academic Programme

The Visiting Academic Programme provides opportunities to build connections and foster collaboration with universities, governments and organisations in the UK and internationally. It enables academics and practitioners to spend time at Royal Holloway, develop their research and work with colleagues on joint research and other scholarly activities.

Our academic visitors will normally hold an academic position at another university and join Royal Holloway to pursue their own research while engaging with one of the Department’s research groups or with the wider University. Practitioners are also welcome to apply where there is scope for meaningful research collaboration with our academics. We also welcome applications from postdoctoral researchers seeking to develop their research, networks and collaborations.

During your visit

Academic Visitors can join Royal Holloway for a minimum period of one month and no longer than a year.

Visitors will normally be given the title Visiting Academic Researcher and should use this title when referring to their association with the Department and Royal Holloway.

Visitors will have opportunities to participate in the intellectual life of the Department and are encouraged to engage with relevant seminars, workshops and research activities during their stay.

We also ask visitors to provide a short description of their current research for inclusion on the Department's website.

Visitor charges and funding

Academic Visitors do not pay fees unless they are using lab resources or other consumables.

Please note that the department does not provide salary or other financial payments to visitors, unless these form part of a visiting fellowship grant.

Applicants must have adequate funds to meet all expenses for the duration of their visit to the University.

How to apply

We recommend that prospective visitors identify a member of the Department whose research interests align with their own and contact them before applying. This can help establish whether there is a suitable academic fit and identify opportunities for collaboration.
