REPLAY Festival 2019

During the political turbulence in Dresden in the late 1840’s Wagner undertook the task to rework Iphigénie en Aulide by Gluck. With significant reworking to orchestration and the closing of the overture Wagner’s arrangement stands as a testament to his reverence for, and intent to revitalise German art. This arrangement prefaces to another revolution of sorts on the programme, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1. From the first note of the introduction to the new scherzo form, this work occupies a prime position in the pantheon of works that revolutionised the symphony. Join Postgraduate Orchestral Conductor Thomas Search and the Royal Holloway Session Orchestra for a concert that throws the punches.

This event is part of REPLAY Festival 2019, a three-day, biennial festival of music presented by the Department, showcasing some of the best and most innovative modern, world and classical music at Royal Holloway.
