REPLAY Festival 2019

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE

Robin Popplewell (Cello) and Matthew Stanley (Piano) present a diverse exploration into romantic compositions for cello, full of mystery and awe. Performing works by Suk, Saint-Saëns and Beethoven, this concert will present the entire breadth of the cello’s technical and emotional prowess, as well as exploring the variety of relationships between the cello and piano. The figure-piece is Camille Saint-Saëns’ Sonata No.1 in C minor, written at a time of great personal grief, which is excellently translated into a maelstrom of a work.

This event is part of REPLAY Festival 2019, a three-day, biennial festival of music presented by the Department, showcasing some of the best and most innovative modern, world and classical music at Royal Holloway.
