Franziska Wolf -Teaching Fellow in German

I teach on the German and Translation Studies programmes in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

For first-year students, I teach GM1400 German Language: Culture and Translation and ML1000 Critical Analysis for Linguists. My second-year teaching consists of ML2400 Questions of Translation and Transcultural Communication and GM2009 German Language II (Comprehension), which offers an introduction to contemporary debates on Heimat and identity as well as social justice. My third-year teaching includes GM3133 Dark Tales: E.T.A. Hoffmann and German Romanticism

I am a specialist in German exile literature and so-called migrant literature, and I’m particularly interested in questions of identity, migration, and discrimination. Besides teaching at Royal Holloway, I’m a PhD candidate in German Studies at the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Birmingham, working comparatively on Lion Feuchtwanger’s Wartesaal-trilogy (1930-40) and Abbas Khider’s novels Der falsche Inder (2008) and Ohrfeige (2016).
