Scout Newby: Head of Departments prize

Scout Newby

Awarded a Head of Departments prize for contribution to the department.

I am so grateful to have been awarded this prize as it shows the department really recognises every student and the contributions they make. Being awarded a head of department prize is such a nice memorable way to end my time here. I have enjoyed being a part of the History department at Royal Holloway over the past 3 years and am sad to be leaving. The range of modules and the smaller class sizes means you get to meet such a diverse group of people and it feels like a real community. There are so many routes to take during this course and having done a mixture of modern and ancient has meant I’ve had the opportunity to interact with so much more history and find the area I’m most interested in. The lecturers are always there to answer questions and are willing to help with any issues, which has been comforting through the more challenging periods. Being part of the history society has also made my time here far more enjoyable, meeting tons of people and having a social space to celebrate history with those who share the interest. I’ve loved my time at Royal Holloway and feel it has set me up with so many skills to continue into a history related career, which hopefully this prize represents.
