Ben Spencer MP (Shadow Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology & AI) visited Royal Holloway last week to meet our Computer Science researchers to discuss the role of AI in transport and public services.

The meeting was chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Ruth Livesey and Faculty Dean Hanna Zagefka, to explore how Royal Holloway's AI and Transport research could address challenges in the local community and at national level.

In the meeting, Dr Sean Feng and Dr Khuong An Nguyen presented their recent research on the use of AI to improve railway performance, including their work on predicting rail delays and reducing level-crossing downtime. The discussion also highlighted Royal Holloway's wider research in trustworthy AI, with Dr Nguyen presenting his work on improving the reliability of AI systems used in government.

This visit reflects Royal Holloway's social purpose value - working with government to take our research outside university and applying it to real-world challenges that matter to our local communities.
