The Department of Physics at Royal Holloway is hosting a regional Institute of Physics three-minute research presentation competition.
It’s back! Three Minute Wonder is a UK- and Ireland-wide science communication competition that challenges participants to explain their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
The competition is open to people working in physics or physics-related fields across academia, business, and industry, as well as those who have graduated in physics within the last ten years. Each year, regional heats take place across the UK and Ireland, with winners progressing to a national final.
Participants are asked to present their original research in a clear, engaging, and accessible way. You may use one slide, one video, and any props you feel are necessary to help bring your work to life. Presentations are judged by a panel of established science communicators, who score each contestant on both content and communication skills.
The aim of Three Minute Wonder is to showcase cutting-edge physics-related research and demonstrate how complex ideas can be communicated effectively to the general public.
This year, we are looking for ten competitors to represent our region and present their research in just three minutes. It would be fantastic to see Royal Holloway researchers and recent graduates take part and showcase their work on this national stage.
If you are interested in developing your presentation skills, sharing your research beyond academia, and competing in a friendly but challenging environment, we encourage you to apply.
