A social action project for Orchestras at Royal Holloway
During this time when we cannot be together, let’s take the time to think - about collective musical activity, and about the power of music. What is music's relevance to our society? What are the biggest challenges in society and how can music help with them? Can collective music-making help rebuild society in a post-COVID world?
Re-Orchestrating Society is a social action project in which students work together in teams of 4 to develop a project based around orchestras that aims to benefit society. The projects draw on issues such as diversity, mental health, globalisation, music education, or other social action topics.
Projects are supervised by Director of Orchestras Rebecca Miller, and joined throughout the term for feedback and advice by industry colleagues.
The initiative gives students the opportunity to develop their abilities in teamwork, innovation, leadership, communication, and entrepreneurship - all valuable and transferable skills that are highly sought after in the job market today.
Participants are awarded an accreditation/certificate of participation that will help add to their credentials.
*An innovation prize will be awarded to the project that our team judges most likely to positively influence society. Prize money will be donated to a charity chosen by the award recipients.
