Our mission is to be outward looking, sharing our expertise and academic knowledge, and working in partnership with entrepreneurs, firms, local authorities, the voluntary sector, charities, trades unions, and other research and educational institutions.

The School of Business and Management is organised through five departments, which are responsible for world leading research and teaching in the following topics:

• Digital Innovation and Management

As part of Royal Holloway, University of London, the School of Business and Management has a campus in Surrey and central London.
We are involved with organisations and firms across Surrey, the Thames and M3 corridors, London, and the South East, and believe that the School can make an important contribution to our communities and businesses.
Our ‘external engagement’ is widely defined: it can include guest lectures and events at our Surrey or London campus, but it involves, in addition, knowledge exchange networks and workshops, government funded Knowledge Exchange Partnerships (KTPs), joint research projects, student work experience and placements, and formal partnership agreements.

We believe that work experience and internships are essential to these aims, and can bring benefits to participating firms and organisations. For 2021-22, nine of our students joined a customized work experience programme with KFM, the management, technology and transformation arm of King's NHS Trust. The students formed project teams to investigate and propose solutions in the areas of data use, renal services, critical care, the service desk, and receipt and distribution. They worked with department heads and managers from KFM, and received the support of SBM academic staff. The programme lasted eight weeks, with participating students working part-time, and they presented their findings and solutions to KFM's senior management. All of students could apply for the summer fully-paid internships, during which they had the chance to implement their proposals. Read more about the scheme here.

All our undergraduate degrees are available with a Year in Business option - 2021/22 placements included internships at Deloitte, Honda, L'Oreal and Microsoft.

Recently, the School hosted a panel discussion with the Surrey Institute of Directors (IoD) on work skills, employability and careers with students, and the discussion also included entrepreneurship, start-ups and growing a business. Surrey IoD and the School of Business and Management are discussing how to form a partnership to promote knowledge exchange networks and workshops involving SMEs and the university, government funded Knowledge Exchange Partnerships (KTPs), joint research projects, work experience and placements, university degree programmes and employability, as well as guest lectures and on campus events.

The Centre for Research into Sustainability (CRIS) is an international group of researchers and educators actively engaged in understanding and promoting economic and environmental sustainability in contemporary society. Please learn more here.
