School Seminar

The genomic footprint of sexual conflict in seed beetles

  • Date27 Mar 2019

Professor Göran Arnqvist, Uppsala University

Location: Bourne Lecture Theatre 2

Understanding the maintenance of genetic variation in fitness represents a longstanding challenge in evolutionary biology. Recent theory suggests that sexually antagonism, where alternative alleles are favored by selection in the two sexes, represents a ubiquitous form of antagonistic pleiotropy that may act to maintain such variation. I will briefly review some theory in this field and will then present results from recent quantitative genetic and molecular genetic efforts in an insect model system that provides considerable support for this hypothesis.

We host a number of guest seminars throughout the academic year to which all students and staff are invited. This is a great way to learn about current research going on at other universities and research institutions, and to meet and network with other scientists.
