Surrey Venture Studio

Surrey Venture Studio

The Surrey Venture Studio (SVS) is a collaborative venture-building programme designed to help early-stage founders transform promising ideas into viable businesses with real societal and economic impact.

Delivered through a partnership between the University of Surrey, Royal Holloway University of London, the University for the Creative Arts and Surrey County Council, SVS represents a new model for regional innovation – bringing together academic expertise, entrepreneurial support and local economic development.

Bridging the gap between research and the real world

Many great ideas struggle to progress beyond the early concept stage. The Surrey Venture Studio was created to address this challenge by providing structured support to founders from universities, research communities and the wider region, who want to turn innovative concepts into scalable ventures.

Through a six-month accelerator programme, participants receive intensive mentoring, practical workshops and access to a network of experts and investors. The programme focuses on the key steps needed to transform ideas into businesses, including:

  • Market validation and customer discovery
  • Business model development
  • Intellectual property and spin-out pathways
  • Market entry strategies
  • Funding readiness and investor engagement

Participants also benefit from monthly mentoring sessions with enterprise experts, helping founders refine their strategy, test assumptions, and accelerate their journey from idea to market.

Supporting social and economic impact

The programme supports ventures that aim to create value not only economically but also socially and environmentally. By helping founders build sustainable, scalable organisations, the Surrey Venture Studio contributes to a stronger regional innovation ecosystem and supports ventures that address real-world challenges.

Founders also gain access to a wider network of innovation partners across Surrey’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, including specialist incubators, research facilities and investor networks. This integrated approach ensures that promising ventures can continue to grow beyond the accelerator stage.

Building a regional innovation ecosystem

The Surrey Venture Studio demonstrates how collaboration between universities, local government and innovation organisations can unlock new opportunities for entrepreneurship.

By supporting the development of early-stage ventures, SVS helps transform research, creativity and community ideas into businesses that create jobs, attract investment and deliver meaningful impact.
