If you would like to attend ‘get togethers’ with other Bedford College alumni in London why not join our WhatsApp Group, which now has 18 members.

We plan to hold an informal meeting at 11 Bedford Square in the Bedford Room once or twice a term, usually on a Tuesday afternoon. The group has also served to offer support to each other through the challenging times of the pandemic and the London floods last year.

We had just started the group and were planning our first meeting when the lockdown happened in March 2020, so we were not able to meet up for a while. Since then, we have held a couple of walks in Regent’s Park and been out to lunch together a few times. Three of us managed to meet up at Bedford Square on an incredibly hot day in June 2022, when the Bedford Room was first opened-up after the pandemic, and eight of us attended our second proper meeting on 22nd November.  It was lovely to be able to tell each other something about our time at Bedford and what we have done since.

We found we are an interesting and varied group but also that we have lots in common. We have many talents and much experience between us and plan to share these at future meetings. One or two people will come to each meeting prepared to speak for a while about a topic of interest and others can join in as they wish. At the November meeting our main speaker was Susie West, who described aspects of her medical career, including being the only female doctor at the Falklands, and the process of writing her memoires, ‘An Ordinary Doctor’. Marleen shared interesting stories from her life as a French and Latin teacher and about famous people she has managed to meet during her life. Kaye told us about her time at Bedford as a mature student in the early 1980’s with young children, whom she sometimes brought into lectures, then, how her life changed as a result of the Berlin wall coming down in 1989.

If you would be interested in joining the group, to attend meetings or just to share messages with others, please get in touch by emailing the alumni team, including your phone number, your subject and date of graduating. These will be passed on to me and I will gladly add you to the WhatsApp group.
