Progress in national benchmark for knowledge exchange

Royal Holloway’s progress in the latest Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) evidences the University's increasing impact in collaboration with industry and public sector partners, policymakers and through graduate entrepreneurship.

Collaborative Learning in Business and Management

The KEF, led by Research England, measures how well universities work with people and organisations beyond higher education to share knowledge, expertise and innovation for wider economic and societal benefit.

This year's results show improvement across several areas of Royal Holloway's knowledge exchange activity, including local growth and regeneration, graduate entrepreneurship, and consultancy and collaboration with public and third-sector organisations.

They also show progress in consultancy and professional expertise provided to public and third-sector organisations - work being consolidated in the University’s new Institute of Social Purpose Innovation (iSPI), through which researchers and specialists contribute evidence, insight and practical solutions to organisations tackling complex social, cultural and economic challenges.

Professor Ruth Livesey, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said:

"These results demonstrate real progress in areas that matter deeply to Royal Holloway, from supporting local growth through research and innovation, to supporting our students to develop skills for choice and opportunity and explore innovative, entrepreneurial pathways. We're proud to be extending this work all the time, not least through our new Institute for Social Purpose Innovation which is creating new opportunities for collaborative, innovative engagement with a wide range of partners.

"Underlying this work is our deep sense of social purpose and conviction in the enormous potential of research and innovation to benefit our wider communities. With place-based thinking and good growth in every postcode central to current government direction, improvements in local growth and regeneration are particularly timely."
