Inaugural of Professor Tracey Berry
We know gravity exists – apples fall from trees! But we haven’t discovered the particle, the graviton, responsible! Could extra dimensions be involved? Professor Berry will share her journey of searching for this missing boson and extra dimensions at the world’s highest energy international colliders, crossing continents to do this – from the Tevatron collider, at Fermilab near Chicago, USA to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. She will use the largest detector in the world, the ATLAS detector and work in within the largest collaboration (5000+) to pursue her research.
From being the only girl in her A-level physics class of 30, the low percentage of females pursuing physics remains - leading her to also, incidentally, become a champion for equality at department, faculty, university, national and international levels.
Admission is free, but booking is essential.
