The globalisation of Sociology

The First Annual Sociology Lecture is launching the creation of Sociology at Royal Holloway, University of London, within the new Department of Geography and Sociology.  It will be given by Professor Geoffrey Pleyers, President of the International Sociological Association.

Sociology is building an analysis of society that is global and equipped to analyse the challenges of our times. A renewed global dialogue has challenged false universalisms, Eurocentric and androcentric stances in the disciplines, and paved the way for revisiting its history, canons, epistemologies and main concepts.  Sociology is experiencing one of its most stimulating and creative periods as a consequence of open dialogue with critical perspectives (feminist, intersectional, decolonial, “post-Western”) and with the epistemologies and contributions of the global East and South as well as Europe.
