Nov 12 2023

This is an incredibly challenging time, and it can be overwhelming for many members of the University community. Tomorrow (13 November) we will mark World Kindness Day and we would like to take this opportunity to emphasise the importance of being kind to each other in our communities, on our Egham campus and in our London spaces.

This is your community, and every one of us plays a crucial role in shaping the culture of our University. We encourage everyone to take the time to listen to each other – with empathy and without judgment. Understanding others’ perspectives can open the door to understanding and cooperation. We often don’t know what someone might be experiencing, and small acts of kindness in what we say, behave and do can go a long way. Creating a culture of kindness not only fosters a more positive environment but may also support wellbeing for us all.

We have such a diverse and international community of which we all should all be incredibly proud, embrace and celebrate. Our Multifaith Chaplaincy team is an important part of the University. If you, or someone you know, would like to attend an inclusive service on our Egham campus, you can find out more about what’s on here. If there is anything you would like to speak to our Chaplains about you can contact them via the student intranet.

Later this week, we are looking forward to marking Disability History Month (Thursday 16 November - Saturday 16 December). As a University, we will be temporarily changing our logo in recognition and there will be lots of events taking place – more information can be found below. You can also access more information about accessibility and future Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) events on the EDI Hub.

During this incredibly difficult time, we must try to look after one another as a single community. Please come to us for support if you need it at any time. If you, or anyone you know, would like to access our Wellbeing support, advisers hold drop-ins each weekday during term time or you can contact them via email. You can also contact our SU Advice Centre, which offers guidance and support.
