Christmas Volunteering

Christmas is a great season to volunteer your time and energy into serving the needs of others. Often it is full of festive fun and cheer, whilst meeting the very real needs for members of the local community.

Christmas Volunteering is the perfect time to lend a helping hand to others. A number of the volunteer opportunities are for exclusive involvement of Royal Holloway students and staff.

Love in a Box - Deadline for 2016 has passed!

Community Action's special Christmas project in partnership with Trussell Trust, where we aim to bring good tidings to underpriveldged children in Bulgaria by sending decorated shoeboxes filled with gifts. As an extra incentive the best decorated box wins a prize.

This year we managed to donate a massive 275 boxes!

Santa’s workshop - Wednesday 7 December 12noon - 1pm

Community Action's long running Christmas project in partnership with Age UK Runnymede & Spelthorne, where we wrap and donate presents to elderly people within the local community. Get involved by donating items in the collection points around campus, and come to wrap the gift items, write a Christmas card, and create a bag in the Students' Union main hall. Santa's hats, seasonal music and festive food are provided for all volunteers!

Last year over 120 gift bags were delivered.

Volunteer drivers are needed to collect and return guests, and there are also opportunities to help with food preparation and making goodie bags. If you would like to know more, send us an email.

Save the Children

A number of Save the Children Projects are taking place across London this festive season. Volunteers are required for a number of projects in December including Christmas Jumper Day, and Christmas carol singing.

Crisis Christmas Centres - late December

Are you one of the over 10,000 volunteers who will help more than 4,000 homeless guests this Christmas? We need people with specialist skills (like dentists, hairdressers, lorry drivers and performers) as well as an army of general volunteers ready to muck in. General volunteers need no special expertise - tasks involve welcoming guests to the centres, serving food and generally making sure things go to plan.

Egham Christmas Kitchen - late December

Christmas Kitchen is a Christian community initiative which aims to provide a safe, supportive café style environment for the people of Egham. Based on Egham High Street, they will be offering light refreshments at no charge, and the opportunity to participate in crafts, board games, have access to support services, and continuity of community activities throughout the Christmas period. The Kitchen need volunteers to help out serving food, clearing up and possibly running activities.

British Transport Police

The British Transport police have a number of events taking place in London over the festive period. With their City Safe Haven, Operation Christmas Hardball and other Christmas operations there are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved. This is an opportunity to help protect the public at Christmas by distributing leaflets or talking to members of the public in order to educate them as to how they can prevent being victims of theft or antisocial behaviour.
