Get involved

We have loads of opportunities for you to get involved with Sustainability at the College. Whether you're a member of staff or a student there's plenty you can do. If you're interested in doing any work with the Sustainability Team just contact us and we'll get started straight away!  Or if you do not have time why not check out our online training to find out more?

You can also get points for the Royal Holloway Passport Scheme.  Any student can earn the award simply by collecting points for a range of activities. You can:

  • develop the transferable skills employers are looking for
  • learn how to sell yourself in a competitive job market
  • receive a Passport Award certificate and celebrate your achievements
  • gain recognition for the difference you make in College and local communities.

To find out more about the award go to Royal Holloway Passport.  We have a range of activities that you can get involved with to earn points (as an example, Green Impact Project, Biodiversity (Surveys/Habitat Enrichment), Questionnaires/ Energy Saving/ Recycling/ Green Travel/Go Green Week/ Fairtrade Fortnight/ End of Term Reuse/ Being a Champion/ running events or making media productions that promote Sustainability on campus).

Most of these involve a time commitment and then you can get a number of different awards depending on how many points you have accumulated.  If you want further information on how you may get involved then please do get in contact with us.

Green Impact and Sustainability Champions

We'll be running a Green Impact Universities and Colleges scheme at Royal Holloway again this year, which we launched in November 2012. Want to take part? Why not get a group of colleagues or mates and make your department sustainable to be a shining light for the rest of the campus? Or be a pioneer and lead your corridor, hall or department to 'ecotopia'?

Green Impact challenges departments to implement a number of easy practical actions that will help the environment.  University staff take part each academic year and, depending on the number of environmental actions they carry out, can achieve either: a working towards accreditation or Bronze, Silver or Gold award for making their workplaces greener.

We would like to encourage staff and students to get involved. The time commitment will be down to you, so you can be as involved as your schedule suits but the more you do the better your chance of winning a Green Impact award!  We've scheduled regular regular workshops to help you on your way and of course the Sustainability office is always on hand to provide advice.  Contact us if you want to get involved.

FairTrade volunteers

As a FairTrade university we're always looking to promote and support FairTrade. You can be involved throughout the year or just for FairTrade Fortnight. It'll be good fun and it'll look great on your CV!  For more information check out our Fairtrade at Royal Holloway on the web and Facebook.

End of term re-use project volunteers

The College's successful end of term re-use project always attracts an enthusiastic group. Why not join for a bit of hard work coupled with some really good laughs (these are 100 per cent guaranteed!)?

Aside from these opportunities we are always looking to work in collaboration with individuals or departments from across the College, so if you have an idea or are already doing something and would like some support from us, then get in touch right away!
