College studentships are usually awarded for three years for a full-time student and six years pro-rata for a part-time student. They are awarded in one of the following ways:
• Combined fee and maintenance awards (for which the maintenance level for 20/21 is £17,285 per annum)
• A financial contribution towards either fees or maintenance
• A fee award (either Home/EU or international).
Students in receipt of a College studentship over £10,000 per annum may be expected to assist with teaching or other academic duties for up to six hours per week during term-time.
There is no central application process for College studentships and recipients are normally selected by Departments. You should indicate a wish to be considered for a College studentship to your supervisor or the Director of Postgraduate Education in the relevant Department.
You can also gain funding for your studies from the Research Councils
A fee award (either Home/EU or international). Students who have either industry or overseas Government sponsorship for their full stipend can apply for one of these awards and should discuss this option with their proposed Supervisor.
