Bradley de Glehn Philosophy Scholarship

The Bradley de Glehn Scholarship was established by Mrs Ernest de Glehn in memory of her brother, AC Bradley.

Two scholarships are available for full or part-time postgraduate students with Home or international fee status studying for a taught Masters course within the Department of Philosophy.

The scholarship is offered as a tuition fee reduction of £9,600.

Am I eligible?

You must hold an offer to study one of the following courses: 

  • MA European Philosophy
  • MA Political Philosophy
  • MA Modern Philosophy

How do I apply?

Applications must be submitted through RH Direct by 11.59pm (UK time) 11 July 2022. Applicants will be made aware of the outcome of their application after 26 July 2022.

You must provide a supporting statement of no more than 400 words (please note that statements that exceed the word count will automatically be rejected) outlining why you should receive the scholarship. You should include: 

  • Academic achievements you are particularly proud of and why these really matter to you 
  • Why you have chosen to do the degree you have applied for 
  • What your future aspirations are and how the scholarship will help you to achieve your future goals 

Your statement will be judged on how effectively and convincingly you respond to the above. 

You must also provide one academic reference of up to 200 words (on official headed paper) and your undergraduate degree transcript. Any applications that are submitted without an uploaded transcript will be rejected.

Two scholarships are available to new full time or part-time Masters Students applying for the following course: 

  • MA European Philosophy
  • MA Political Philosophy
  • MA Modern Philosophy

Eligibility

Open to new Masters Students who hold a current conditional or unconditional offer to study a course, as listed above, at Royal Holloway.

Allocation

Applicants to the Bradley De Glehn Philosophy Scholarships are reviewed based on their academic achievement and the strength of their scholarship application. Students must submit a completed scholarship application form by the deadline, specified annually. This includes:

  • Scholarship statement
  • Undergraduate degree transcript
  • One academic reference (up to 200 words). This must be from an academic who has previously supported, taught or worked with you (on official headed paper).

Payment

This scholarship is offered as a tuition fee reduction equal to the value of Home fees for 2021/22 academic year i.e., a tuition fee reduction of £9,600. For part-time students, the fee reduction (equal to the value of Home fees) will be applied to the first two years of study only.

Please Note: Students who receive full fee reduction as part of this award will not be able to avail any tuition fee discounts (including alumni discounts) in conjunction with this scholarship.
