Applicant Visit Days
What is an Applicant Visit Day (AVD)?
These specially tailored days have been designed to give you (applicants and your guests) an in-depth feel for what it's really like to study your chosen course at Royal Holloway. The day will feature department specific activities which vary depending on whether you'll be interviewed. You can also take the opportunity to take a tour of campus, see our accommodation and listen to a talk on student life. See below for more information on the days:
When do they take place?
If you've applied and received an offer to study at Royal Holloway, or your department have asked you to attend an interview, you will be invited to attend an Applicant Visit Day. Your invitation will include a selection of dates which you can book from December until March. We offer a variety of Saturday dates to ensure that everyone (applicants and their guests) can attend regardless of your school/college timetable or work commitments.
Every department is different and every applicant will have a unique experience of their chosen course, whether they are applying to a single or joint honours course. Each department will take a varied approach to showcasing both their teaching methods and facilities. Activities often include, but are not limited to:
an introductory talk
a sample lecture, seminar or laboratory experiment
a tour or hands-on experience of the department's facilities
a one-to-one or wider discussion with academics from the department
the opportunity to speak with current students about their experiences.
Depending on your chosen course you may be invited to attend an interview at one of the AVDs. These interviews may be required for you to receive your initial offer or to receive an unconditional offer. Details about the interviews will be sent out in your initial invitation email and subsequent reminder emails. Attendance at Applicant Visit Days are by invitation only, following your initial application.
