Access courses

We encourage soAccess to HEme mature students to undertake a Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA)-recognised Access to Higher Education course before applying to Royal Holloway.

The QAA monitors standards in higher education and regulates access courses, which are designed to prepare mature students for university by underpinning the knowledge and skills needed.

What to look for

When looking for an access course, you should look at its academic content, teaching, study and assessment methods. The best ones will prepare you in all areas, so ask about essay-writing, seminar work and presentations as well as the academic content of a course.

A national database listing all Access to Higher Education courses in the country is maintained by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).  Their mature student pages also provide lots of helpful information for students returning to higher education.

Many colleges and other adult education providers in the area around Royal Holloway deliver QAA-recognised Access to Higher Education courses.

Below you will find a list of the Access courses provided by local organisations. Contact details are given next to each college/organisation name.
