We revealed the name of our new Library and Student Services Centre (L&SSC) last week (11 January).
This was after a close contest to see which of our inspiring alumnae in our shortlist would have the honour of giving their name to the building, which will be a great resource for all our students once it opens later this year.
And can you guess who was chosen by our community of students, staff and alumni? The Instagram post above may give you a clue!
The new L&SSC will be named after Emily Wilding Davison - an emblem of women's emancipation.
Katie Broomfield, MA History, has written a great blog about why she wanted the L&SSC to be named after the iconic suffragette Emily:
"Emily died on 8 June 1913, four days after she ran out in front of King George V’s horse at the Epsom Derby: an event that was captured on film and played around the world and which sealed her fate as one of the most fearless and courageous of all female campaigners."
