The Conference and Catering team has been shortlisted for three TUCO (The University Caterers’ Organisation) awards this year, in the Innovation, Rising Star and Member of the Year categories.

The Innovation Award recognises and celebrates a TUCO member university that has successfully launched a new bar or catering concept in the past 12 months, for which we showcased our highly successful and popular Boilerhouse café. The submission showed evidence that the initiative had had an overall positive impact on the catering business and on cost and profit to the College.

Terri Sadler has deservedly earned herself a place in the finals of The Rising Star Award.  During her career at Royal Holloway, Terri has proved that hard work, determination and a desire to develop professionally leads to significant career progression. She has demonstrated that she is willing and able to take on a challenge and to work outside of her comfort zone in order to deliver inspirational customer service.

The Member of the Year award recognises a member institution that has made a significant contribution to the work of TUCO.  The relationship between Royal Holloway and TUCO goes back more than twenty years to when Royal Holloway’s then Director of Residences and Catering, played a huge part in developing the TUCO Chef’s competition.  Subsequently, members of Royal Holloway staff have played a significant role in developing the National Purchasing agenda and participating in the outsourcing of the day to day management of those national agreements.

Commenting on the nominations, Head of Conferences and Catering Mike Hoare said, “It is a tremendous achievement to be shortlisted for three awards, which is a testament to the quality of the team. Well done to all of those involved”.

The winners will be announced at the end of July.
