We apologise for the any inconvenience caused by the current works on campus.  These works are all essential to upgrade our historic estate.

What’s new?

Pedestrian & bus diversions:  Works on A30 south pavement mean pedestrian diversion & bus stop suspension 18 – 24 July

  • Bus stop shelter enabling works outside the Pack Horse Public House
  • There will be a pedestrian diversion in place and the bus stop will be suspended during these works.  Alternative bus stops are shown on the map below.

18 July

Pedestrian diversion:  Works on A30 south pavement for toucan crossing enabling works mean pedestrian diversion 25 July – 2 August

  • A new toucan crossing is being installed to create a safe route between Royal Holloway's new George Eliot Halls on the university's north campus and the south campus
  • This work is the enabling works, the main works will take place from 7 August.
  • There will be a clearly signposted pedestrian division during these works.

Delays likely: A30 roadworks expected to start from 24 July

  • Roadworks on the A30 / Chestnut Drive junction to complete the final drainage connection to the new George Eliot Halls are expected to start on the 24 July. 

Delays likely: Part of Bakeham Lane will be closed from 26 July to 26 September

  • This means the main route to and from Huntersdale will be diverted via the A30, Christchurch road in Virginia Water and Callow Hill.  Prune Hill will be accessible but there will be traffic lights at the top.
  • These roadworks are not connected to the College, full details of local roadworks are available here.

Site change:  Scaffolding will be erected on the new Science building frame

  • Over the next three weeks scaffolding will be erected on the site adjacent to the Bowyer building

What’s coming up?

Auditorium closed: Windsor Building auditorium closed from 31 July to 11 August

  • Some of the seats are being replaced and the floor is being glossed

Delays likely:  One lane of the main campus road by the Science building site entrance will be closed 5/6 August

  • Dismantling of the Science building crane means that the main campus road by the site entrance will be closed for part of the weekend of 5 / 6 August. 
  • Traffic and pedestrian management will be in place while the crane is being dismantled.

Access to Arts:  Changes to access to Arts Building in the next few weeks

  • The Arts Building will only be accessible by walking around the back by Horton or up from the Woodland path.

Access to Founder’s East:  Over the coming weeks the Principal’s entrance and the main entrance will temporarily close

  • Exact dates and duration of the works are to be confirmed, but at least two entrances on Founder’s east will remain open at all times.

  • Bus stop enabling works outside the main entrance
  • There will be a pedestrian diversion in place and the bus stop will be suspended during these works, as show in the diagram below.

18 July 2

Delays likely:  Touch crossing installation works 7 August – 3 October

  • A new toucan crossing is being installed to create a safe route between Royal Holloway's new George Eliot Halls on the university's north campus and the south campus.
  • There will be a partial road closure with three way traffic lights and pedestrian diversions during these works.

What’s continuing?

Access to Founder’s East:  Access to Founder’s east is around Founder’s Square

  • Founder’s East will be accessible from the pathway between Windsor and Davison and around the Square.
  • Founder’s East entrances are all open.
  • There is no access to Founders’ Square from the north east and the square will remind enclosed for the next few weeks.

Access and route changes:  Access and pedestrian route changes around the Arts Building

  • The existing pathway along the front of the Arts Building is being re-laid, this work will be completed by early September. 
  • During this first phase of work there will be three access routes into the Arts building: from the north the first door on the Davison side, from the south the fire door by the Arts annex and the fire door by McCrea. 
  • The main front door will closed off and the pathway by it will be blocked. 
  • The route from the woodland path to the main campus road will be by Bedford and McCrea. 

Access changes:  Access to the SU via Tommy’s entrance and the south side steps only

  • Work has started to improve the SU square so it can better accommodate daytime and evening events.
  • Access to the Student Union will be via the Tommy’s entrance with an approach from the south side steps/ramp only.
  • Access to the Student Union from the north side opposite International Building will be closed throughout the works.

ATM closed:  the Student Union ATM will be closed until the start of term

  • The Windsor Building ATM will remain open.

Bike shelter moved: The bike shelter by the SU has moved

Delays likely: Runnymede Roundabout works from 8 July to March 2018

  • Surrey County Council will be starting works on Runnymede Roundabout on the 8 July to improve traffic management and the efficiency of vehicle flows as well as making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to safely navigate the roundabout. 
  • In advance of the main works starting they ae some enabling works that will be minor diversions next week The timings for this work hasn’t yet been confirmed, more details are available here

Roadworks on the top north east corner of Founder’s continue

  • The final stages of the roadworks around continue along Founder’s east, where possible mechanical diggers are being used to reduce the noise impact. 

Summer work to refurbish halls means the pathway by Runnymede 1 is blocked off

  • Major refurbishment of Runnymede 1 blocks NPQ and JKLM has started.  This means these Halls and the pathway to the Sports Centre will be blocked off all summer.  The alternative route is via the road between the Halls (as shown on the campus map above).
  • Over the summer refurbishment works will also be carried out in Gower and Wedderburn, Kingswood 1 and 2 as well as Runnymede 2.

Computer Centre Lab 5 is being refurbished

  • The refurbishment of lab 5 in the computer centre continues, it is due to be completed by 28 July.   

Increased construction traffic to the Science building

  • Each week day there will be up to five large deliveries to the site
  • There will be traffic management teams in place to manage these deliveries and to ensure your safety, please look out for them and follow their guidance.
