Work is well underway on our new science building, and now’s your chance to help name it!

Our new science building will be a high quality, technology led-space available for all students and staff. It will have a 268 seat state-of-the-art lecture theatre, multi-functional seminar rooms, flexible laboratories and creative and collaborative areas. It will also be home to our Department of Electronic Engineering. You can find out more about the building here.

Last year, our students and colleagues made suggestions for who the building should be named after and as a result we now have a short list of four names.

Kathleen Lonsdale (1903 – 1971) a pioneering crystallographer

Elizabeth Blackwell (1821 – 1910) the first woman doctor in the western world

Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) a biophysicist, physicist, chemist, biologist and X-ray crystallographer

Beatrice Shilling (1909 – 1990) a British aeronautical engineer and motor racer

Students and colleagues now have until 15 February 2018 to let us know which of the four historical individuals inspires them the most.   Who they think best reflects the building’s importance and embodies the spirit and success of our university? Choose your favourite now
