On Thursday 21 March at 1pm, IT Services will be making an upgrade to the University’s Virtual Private Network (VPN), Global Protect, moving to the latest version of the system.

There will not be any prolonged downtime. The way the VPN works will remain the same, but when you log in to Global Protect, you may notice that it's appearance is slightly more modern, and that the log out message is clearer.

The first time you connect to VPN after 21 March, the Global Protect software on your computer will upgrade, and you may receive a notification on your device that it’s happening. The VPN will disconnect during the upgrade and you will have to reconnect when it completes.

As a result of the upgrade, these older operating systems will no longer be supported:

  • For Apple – El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12), High Sierra (10.13), Mojave (10.14)

  • For Windows – 8.1

  • For Linux – all cent OS 7, cent OS 8.0, red hat 7-8.1, ubuntu 14.04

If you have any questions about this upgrade or any issues after it takes place, please let us know.
