Micro-placements Scheme

What is the Micro-Placements Scheme?

Royal Holloway, University of London offers a unique and award-winning micro-placements scheme which encourages students to experience a day-to-day professional working environment in a variety of industries.

The scheme is open to second year undergraduate students across 12 academic departments throughout the university and also first year students studying Criminology.

Micro-placements last between two to four weeks during the summer and are secured by our placements team. All placements are unpaid, however travel expenses incurred during your placement will be covered.

In 2015, the scheme won the 'Best Preparation for Work Initiative' award by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), which recognises outstanding examples of excellence in the graduate development industry through its annual AGR Development Awards.

Type of Placements and Selection Process

The placements team sources work experience opportunities in a diverse range of sectors, including publishing, marketing & PR, heritage, biotechnology and financial services. Whilst we endevour to take students' preferences into consideration, we always rely on employers’ availability to host a placement. We have found that students who are flexible and open to exploring new areas come away with the most positive and rewarding placement experiences.

In order to get a place on the scheme, all students need to go through a competitive selection process. This process in itself is a fantastic way to improve your employability and develop skills required for the job market.
