Clement Jones - Drama and Theatre

ClementJonesDegree programme: Drama and Theatre

Year of study: Third

Why did you choose to study at Royal Holloway?

I decided to study Drama at Royal Holloway as it provided that perfect 50/50 balance between critical and creative practice that I was looking for. With three performance spaces on campus and easy access to London, what more could you want as a Drama student?

What do you enjoy most about studying Drama and Theatre?

I have a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops which make for an interesting and varied week! It’s such a privilege to be lectured by the people whose books you are reading and then really get to grips with the course in seminars.

What is your favourite thing about being a student at Royal Holloway?

With wi-fi across campus, I love being able to print straight from my laptop to a college printer. And if mine breaks, I’ve got the reassurance of the computer centre being open 24/7! As for the libraries, whether you prefer working in absolute silent or vigorous group discussion, there’s sure to be the right space for you.

Moving into a Victorian chateau can be pretty overwhelming, but the student volunteers made me feel right at home! Founder’s is the most beautiful building to look at and really comfortable to live in too. The fact that the residential support guides are always on call reassures me that I’m in one of the safest campuses in the UK.

What is the student life like?

As a Christian, it’s great to know that there’s a thriving Christian Union that’ll support you in your faith. We meet once a week for worship and teaching and do lots of fun events on campus – look out for us giving out free donuts outside the SU!

How are your degree and extracurricular activities preparing you for life after university?

I joined The Student Workshop to get extra theatre experience alongside my studies. In my first term, I’ve already helped produce one show and have acted in another. The experience I’m gaining is just as useful for my future career as my studies are – and it’s great fun too! As a student ambassador I get to tell everyone why I love Royal Holloway, and get paid for it! I meet so many different people, I’m constantly gaining confidence and get to offer advice to prospective students in the same way it was given to me.
