As we look forward to the new academic year and cohort of students, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to another successful Confirmation and Clearing campaign. As a result of your hard work throughout the undergraduate, and postgraduate recruitment cycle, we will be welcoming over 3,000 new students to campus during arrivals weekend on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September.

August is always a busy month in higher education.  On August 9 the results of the National Student Survey (NSS) were released. For the third year running, Royal Holloway achieved number one for student satisfaction among the Non-specialist University of London institutions and the larger London-based universities. These results are testament to our community of engaged students and inspiring academics and I am delighted that our students consistently rate their experience at Royal Holloway as above average. Our estate development work also continued at pace. We are nearing the completion of the Emily Wilding Davison Building; the library collections have all been transferred into the new Library space and, over the next few weeks, the building will be ready for teams from the Library, Student Services Centre and Careers & Employability Service to move into.  This means the building will be open and teams ready to support students from the start of term. The finishing touches are also being made to the George Eliot Hall, our townhouse-style accommodation on the north campus, ready for arrivals weekend and for the first residents to move in.

I appreciate that the building works to create the Davison Building, Founder’s Square and the George Eliot Hall have been disruptive.  I would like to thank everyone for your support and patience during these builds and in particular to thank the teams who have worked so hard to bring these significant projects to a conclusion.  I hope you, like me, will agree it’s been worth the inconvenience to have such magnificent resources available to our students and us.
