The Department is committed to providing excellent quality teaching & learning experiences both within the academic university setting and when the students are undertaking both their 70 day and 100 day assessed practice placements within a health & social care/social work setting.
The Practice Learning & Development Unit aims to provide:
- High quality expertise in the field of practice learning. Students will be supported during their practice placement by an allocated Placement Tutor who has gained experience and/or further qualification in the field of practice learning as well as being a qualified and registered social worker.
- Efficient matching and allocation of placement opportunitiesthat meet both the learning needs of students and the requirements of our regulatory bodies.
- Quality Assured practice placement opportunities
- Practice Educators who are qualified and registered social workers, as well having gained or who are working towards their Practice Educator Professional Standards Level 1 & 2 (PEPS) qualification.

Donna Jones, the Practice Learning & Development Manager, oversees the practice learning curriculum, coordinates and manages the work of the Practice Placement Tutors, develops and quality assures new practice placement opportunities. In addition, Donna provides consultative support and guidance to all those involved in working with a social work student.
