The rewards and challenges of conducting research with women admitted to a Mother and Baby Unit: Using the IMAGINE study as an example

As part of this presentation Dr Anja Wittkowski, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester and Clinical Psychologist at Manchester’s Mother and Baby Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital, will outline some of her past and present research studies in order to illustrate the steps involved in building up an evidence base in a field that has received more attention over the last few years (see NHS Five Year Forward Plan).

She will draw on her experience of leading on the IMAGINE study – a feasibility RCT for women admitted to a Mother and Baby unit – to highlight the challenges of research with this group of service users and the complexities involved in conducting research with women during their transition to motherhood.
