ISOTDAQ 2019 is the 10th of a series of International Schools dedicated to introduce those with an education in physics, engineering or computing (ranging from undergrads to postdocs) to the "arts and crafts" of triggering and acquiring data for physics experiments.

The school brings together over fifty students at postgraduate and early-career post-doctoral level, taught by thirty lecturers and tutors from high energy physics and engineering institutes around the world. The expertise on display ranges from small table-top R&D, scaling up to the major data processing challenges of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments at CERN to driving the next generation of discovery in Neutrino Physics with the upcoming DUNE experiment at Fermilab.

The main aim of the school is to provide an overview of the basic instruments and methodologies used in high energy physics, emphasizing the main building blocks as well as the different choices and architectures at different levels of complexity. Participants are taking part in a series of lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises, where students can apply use the concepts and techniques they are learning throughout the course.

Royal Holloway physicist and Chair of the local organising committee, Dr William Panduro Vazquez, said: “It is a great pleasure for Royal Holloway to welcome so many of our colleagues, all world leading experts in their field, who have come together to educate and inspire the next generation of physicists and engineers. High Energy Physics is built on international collaboration, and events such as ISOTDAQ will underpin our ability to face the technical challenges of future experiments together, opening the door to the next era of discovery”.
