Beethoven Snapshots: Call for performers

Join us for this special, virtual collaboration between new and returning music students at the Department of Music at Royal Holloway, as we kickstart the academic year with our digital response to Beethoven's Piano Concertos.

As part of this unique project, we are looking for everyone to join us and record a catalogue of musical excerpts from Beethoven's five pianos concertos. From the gaiety of the First to the beautiful lyricism of the Fifth, we will be creating a large catalogue of musical excerpts for a team of music creators to create 2-3 minute musical 'snapshots', for a world premiere as part of Welcome Week 2020.

So, whether you play the violin or bassoon, piccolo or double bass, piano or triangle, and everything in between, we would like to hear from you and to showcase your talent as part of this unique project.

This opportunity is open to all students (and staff) at the Department of Music. We also encourage current finalists who are graduating in summer 2020 to get involved.

We are pleased to have our 2019-2020 Orchestral Scholars on-board to help us with this project, so all performers will be assigned with one of the following Project Leads: Daniel Gurner, Rachel Pankhurst, Renee Lewis (violin), Nimat Awoyemi (viola), Ciaran Trevena (cello), Abigail Caveney (woodwind), Peter Le Tissier (brass) and Becca Stell (percussion/piano).

If you play an instrument that you would not normally find in an orchestra (e.g. guitar, saxophone, etc.) and want to get involved, please feel free to contact rebecca.miller@rhul.ac.uk to see how we will be able to accommodate you.

How to get involved

  • Complete the short entry form below (scroll down) and send your recorded musical excerpts by 5.00pm on Friday, 11 September 2020.
  • You will be contacted by a member of Royal Holloway Orchestras with a 'Beethoven Snapshot Pack', outlining the musical excerpts, best practices for recording your excerpts remotely, and further project information.
