International Concert Series 2022-23
Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' is one of the pillars of the chamber music repertoire. Writing in 1824, Schubert did what many great composers do: he borrowed from himself, taking from the song Der Tod und das Mädchen of seven years prior. From instability to an impassioned tarantella, a sombre chorale to the dark waltz, our Quartet-in-Residence the Tippett Quartet programme this masterpiece alongside Borodin's effervescent Second String Quartet.
Event programme
Alexander Borodin (1833 - 1887): String Quartet No. 2 in D major
Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828): String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810 'Death and the Maiden'
