Dada's Women intervention with Ruth Hemus

Dada's Women intervention at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne

  • Date22 November 2018

On Saturday 24 November 2018 Dr Ruth Hemus and her creative team will occupy a grotto in the architectural installation 'Gathering' at the Hatton Gallery (24 October 2018 - 16 February 2019).

On 24 November Ruth Hemus, Sonia Allori and Vaia Paziana will debut a multimedia collage of digital visuals and soundscape. This original work is inspired by, and pays homage to, the photomontage artist Hannah Höch.
Spurred on by Höch's proclamation 'Unlimited freedom for HH!', the team is inviting visitors to help them in their creative transformation of a grotto. This intervention forms part of the architect-designed project 'Gathering', to accompany the exhibition 'Exploding Collage' (24 October 2018 - 16 February 2019).
Newcastle University's Hatton Gallery has been at the heart of cultural life in the North East since the early 20th century. It was founded in 1925 and in October 2017 the gallery underwent a £3.8 million redevelopment to conserve the historic and architectural elements of the Grade II listed building while creating a modern exhibition space.
