CHRONOS and DOS Public Lecture
Venue: Moore Auditorium
Speaker: Barbara Czarniawska, Professor of Management Studies, Gothenburg Research Institute, University of Gothenburg, Sweden
Abstract
What were the fears and hopes automation has occasioned through years, and how were they reflected in popular culture, from the coining of the term “robot" to the present media hype? Have such hopes and fears changed, and did the changes reflect actual changes in robotics? I analyze how this topic was treated in science fiction novels and films that have captured the popular imagination on a worldwide scale, and then compare to the picture presented in contemporary media and social sciences.
