In this role as the AdvanceHE Race Equality Panelist, Dr Rita D’Alton-Harrison will review applications by institutions for an award under the Race Equality Charter. There are currently two awards, bronze and silver.

The AdvanceHE Race Equality Charter was launched in 2016 as a national award scheme for universities able to establish an ongoing commitment to address race inequalities within their institutions. Institutions can apply by submitting quantitative and qualitative data demonstrating that they have identified, self-reflected and taken subsequent action to address institutional and cultural barriers preventing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students from achieving their full potential. Panel members are responsible for reviewing institutional applications, agreeing outcomes, and providing feedback to applicants.

Royal Holloway was a volunteer institution for early trials of the Charter framework in 2015 and successfully attained a bronze award. This was renewed in 2019. There are 23 institutions who currently hold a bronze award. There are no institutions presently holding a silver award.
