See the world differently

Studying History at Royal Holloway opens the way to a surprisingly wide world of the past, from Ancient Greece to modern China. We’re proud of our diverse curriculum which offers strong support for gender, minority, and queer histories.

Our department is a one of the largest, yet friendliest, in Britain - a warm and welcoming community where there is always something happening thanks to our award-winning History Society.

Our satisfied students

Our students have voted! 95% reported overall satisfaction in the 2017 national survey, making us the highest rated History department in London and 16th in the UK (NSS, 2017).

Our students also have exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. For example, they have played a key role in The Citizens Project, a Heritage Lottery Fund project that produces YouTube videos and educational resources for schools. If you’ve studied History or Politics at GCSE or A Level you may already have seen these videos which range from Magna Carta to the Suffragettes and beyond.
