Centre for the Study of the Body and Material Culture
Public Engagement Workshop – Recreating Household Technologies and Experiences
2-4pm Wednesday March 20th– SHILLING-0-04
The Shilling Building, Royal Holloway, University of London
Following on from the round table on ‘Technologies on the Body’, the Centre is holding an afternoon workshop exploring how household technologies and the experiences of using them are recreated in museum and education settings. The workshop will consist of a talk and discussion from Helen Peavitt, Science Museum Curator on the hanging display methods for household objects in some of the Science Museum’s galleries. This will be followed by a practice-based workshop led by Dr Katie Carpenter, Creative Economy Engagement Fellow at RHUL and the Parliamentary Archives. The workshop will explore Victorian household technologies and how using surviving objects in teaching can help students re-imagine their use in the past.
Refreshments will be served after the workshop.
All are welcome but please do let us know in advance if you would like to come, by emailing katie.carpenter@rhul.ac.uk
