Department of Classics recognised as Department of the Year.

SU Department of the Year 2018 - Classics

Dr Richard Hawley and Margaret Scrivner with SU Vice President Steff Milne

We are delighted to say that the Department of Classics has been awarded Department of The Year at the Royal Holloway Students' Union's annual Laurels Awards. This accolade recognises the academic department that has "worked to integrate the course representative system in their department, effecting change and enhancing the student experience".

Dr Richard Hawley, Deputy Head of Department, and Margaret Scrivner, Department Manager, were at the ceremony to accept the award from Students' Union Vice President Sports, Steff Milne on behalf of the whole department.

The award is a testament to the strong community spirit within the department, ranked 3rd in the UK for Satisfaction with Teaching in the Guardian University Guide 2018.

Professor Boris Rankov, Head of Department, commented: "I'm absolutely delighted that the Students' Union has recognised the outstanding work that colleagues and students put in to create the wonderful community we have within the Department of Classics at Royal Holloway. I will be proud to tell new students coming to study Classics with us in September 2018 that they are joining the Department of the Year.”
