Activities

 


A Taste of Physics

Run for students thinking of applying to study physics at university, these one-day sessions give a flavour of undergraduate physics teaching. Our admissions tutor is also on hand to answer questions on applying for Royal Holloway degree programmes.

Masterclasses

We run an annual Particle Physics masterclass. This is a one-day event consisting of university-style lectures, sessions in our teaching laboratories and other hands-on activities, supervised by staff and students from the department.

Evening Lectures

A series of school-friendly public lectures are presented by the Department of Physics at Royal Holloway.  Teachers, sixth form and GCSE  are invited to attend to hear about new research as well as hot topics in science.

GCSE Physics workshops

In association with the South East Physics network (SEPnet) we run a series of GCSE workshops. The use of these is currently being reviewed and we hope to have more information in the new academic year (Sep '16).

Sounds Good

A live show all about sound and waves. Features live demonstrations and has a focus on students understanding waves in physics at a fundamental level. This event can also be offered as a workshop.

We host a range of hands-on activities and events at Royal Holloway Science Festival. We have a range of events suitable for both families and school groups. The next festival will be March 5th 2016.

Our Physics outreach officer is Dave Farmer. Dave graduated from the University of Nottingham with an MSci in Physics in 2011 and undertook a PhD in Soft Matter Physics. He is currently in the process of writing up his thesis.
