New grant awarded to the Nano Technology Group

Posted on 02/12/2013

Professor Oleg Astafiev has been awarded £114,915 from the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) for the project entitled: ‘Measurement and control of single-photon microwave radiation on a chip’.

Professor Astafiev comments: 'The Nano Technology Group are delighted to establish this collaboration with European metrological institutes, particularly National Physical Laboratory. The collaboration will benefit from our expertise in quantum optics on single artificial atoms based on superconducting quantum system technologies. Our goal is to study a novel type of quantum electronic device: a single photon source in the microwave range. A state of the art fabrication and characterization technologies at RHUL will be part of the project.'
