On 15 and 16 October 2010, Royal Holloway provided the venue for an Advanced Working Group on Monopoles in Spin Ice. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together theoretical and experimental researchers already informed or active in the field of monopoles in spin ice materials, in order to make the point on the state of the art of the field, to discuss the remaining controversial open issues, and to identify the most promising experimental and theoretical future directions. The programme included overview presentations on specific aspects and experimental techniques followed by discussion.  Participants were also invited to make short presentations on their latest results or to pinpoint outstanding questions in the field.  The meeting was organised by Steve Bramwell (UCL), Claudio Castelnovo (RHUL), Peter Holdsworth (ENS Lyon) and Roderich Moessner (Max-Planck-Institut Dresden) and was attended by over 20 participants from around the world
