Event from the ATLAS detector

26 July 2010: the first results from the LHC at CERN are being made public at the International Conference on Particle Physics. All the major experiments presented measurements from the initial phases of the LHC operation at 3.5 TeV per beam. The experiments have rediscovered most of the particles which make up the "standard model" of particle physics.  The Royal Holloway experimental particle physics group is heavily involved in the ATLAS experiment.
