Advanced Working Group on p-wave states of matter

Posted on 23/03/2012

On 16 and 17 March 2012, Royal Holloway hosted an Advanced Working Group on p-wave states of matter and the related quest for non-Abelian quasiparticles. This two day meeting of invited participants was designed to stimulate discussions between theorists and experimentalists on topics such as:

  • chiral superconductors
  • liquid He phases and confinement
  • fractional quantum Hall paraphernalia
  • wire networks and other engineered p+ip systems

The AWG meetings are based around a small number of overview talks covering current state of the art research in a specified field in order to highlight interesting issues and open questions.  These talks are complemented by a number of short presentations, which provides an opportunity for participants -- including the overview speakers -- to present their own latest results, ongoing work, or comment on results of other theoretical or experimental groups. An integral part of the workshop is the extended discussion sessions, where topics of current interest are debated and future lines of research are identified.  The key objective of these meetings is to generate lively discussions.
