Law and Criminology

  • Excellent links with law firms, prisons, government bodies and charities

Welcome to the Department of Law and Criminology

Our friendly, outward-looking postgraduate community offers students a stimulating research environment and regular, tailored supervisory sessions. With a large proportion of our student body coming from outside the UK, we offer a forum for ideas to be exchanged in an international context.

We offer a number of interdisciplinary and specialist courses, aimed at students looking to develop a specific understanding of particular topics or areas of discussion. Our MSc in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies, which takes place at our Royal Holloway London Graduate School (apart from some optional modules), is tailored to students looking to develop research experience in terrorism and counter-terrorism or work in the security sector. Our MSc in Forensic Psychology, which takes place wholly at our main Egham campus, is taught by academics across the disciplines of Psychology, Criminology and Law, which allows our students to practice communicating and integrating complex concepts from multidisciplinary levels.

The strength of these courses can be found in their alignment to our research, drawing links to the disciplines of law, criminology, sociology, social policy and psychology. Understanding how these disciplines work in conjunction better enables our postgraduate taught and research students to improve their critical engagement in debates and discussion, which they take forward into their future careers. Our postgraduate courses take place at both our main campus in Egham, and at the Royal Holloway London Graduate School, based in the heart of Bloomsbury; a centrality that grants students easy access to University of London resources, such as Senate House Library.

We offer postgraduate courses in:

MSc Forensic Psychology

MSc Gender Studies and History and Law (course under development for 2023 entry)

MSc Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies (taught at the Royal Holloway London Graduate School, with some elective modules being taught at our Egham campus)

MA Consumption, Culture and Marketing (taught in partnership with the School of Business and Management)
